About INSPIRE
What is INSPIRE?
INSPIRE is a hub and network for excellence and enterprise in learning resulting from a strategic partnership between the Education and Training Directorate (the Department) and the University of Canberra (UC). INSPIRE works with
- Principals, teachers and students on quality teaching and learning practice
- the Faculty of Education, Science, Technology and Mathematics on pre-service teacher education and STEM education
- the Designs for Learning Research Cluster on the design of new learning environments and new educational services and
- government and community organisations around engagement and innovation
INSPIRE is learning commons, a place to imagine, experiment and design new ways of working and learning digitally. INSPIRE services highlight quality teaching and contemporary learning practices through staying connected to global initiatives and trends about learning design and design thinking. We focus on a futures perspective and developing foresight, not just knowledge and skills.
Our Goal
INSPIRE is about doing new things in new ways, not old thinking with new technologies. At INSPIRE we help you experience learning in a technology rich and fully connected way as a learner and assist you design learning that promotes learner voice and collaboration. INSPIRE brings diverse people together to work collaboratively and creatively to generate new educational services and products.
Our Program
Programs at INSPIRE focus on 5 key elements:

- Learning design and designed thinking
- Quality teaching and contemporary contemporary practice across diverse educational settings
- Applied research
- New learning technologies
Programs at INSPIRE will assist you reimagine your practice and motivate you to experiment with your ideas and grow innovative practice through and with new and emerging learning technologies. In addition, we deliver thought-coaching for education leaders by exploring models of contemporary practice and learning strategies that are at the forefront of contemporary practice.
INSPIRE will set new standards for the design of teaching and learning services through the INSPIRE Associates and the INSPIRE Academy schools program. INSPIRE Associates will be selected from talented educators and will be accredited to deliver high quality professional development grounded in current practice and practical ideas of how this can be utilised for learning. INSPIRE Academy Schools will be selected for intensive programs to assist staff work toward a shared vision of learning and implementation of contemporary learning practices across their whole school communities.
Our Practice: How did we achieve this?
INSPIRE is about quality teaching – contemporary practice. Programs at INSPIRE focus on learning design and how instructional and educational design is evolving in digitally rich and diverse environments. These will feature contemporary models of teaching and learning that blend professionals’ technical skills, curriculum knowledge and pedagogical beliefs into a rich framework of strategies and practice that result in stimulating, engaging and challenging learning experiences for students.
Research into the latest in learning design and ideas from the best practitioners locally, nationally and internationally will be published by INSPIRE in a range of digital formats designed to be easy to use, modify and share.
INSPIRE values collaborative learning and as such at INSPIRE there is no one way… we model ways of working that promote the active co-creation of knowledge, enabling all learners to have a voice while providing multiple opportunities to interact with others to discuss, shape and explore concepts.
INSPIRE is different in so many ways… if you are looking to improve or extend your practice or just want to test your ideas, then INSPIRE is right for you ….we look forward to learning with you.
